Chapter History

How Tri Sigma Got Started at the University of Arkansas at Monticello 1983-84

in 1983, Roxanne Bailey and Monica Smith heard that Tri Sigma Sorority had at one time thought about establishing a chapter at UAM, yet no action had been taken. Therefore, they went to their Panhellenic Director to inquire about Tri Sigma.

Once the girls had contacted National Headquarters, they responded letting them know that an Alumnae Survey would be conducted right away. A representative from Tri Sigma then came to UAM and met with Roxanne and Monica. They had a list of 30 interested girls. These girls were invited to an introductory meeting to explain Tri Sigma. In November of 1983, a Sigma colonization team came to select and train a new colony. There was a first part open to girls interested in Sigma, then came an interview. After this, the girls were invited back to a preference party that the Alpha Omicron chapter from Conway hosted. The next day, bids were extended to 25 girls who were initiated on November 18, 1983.
